What is a Maintenance Access Hatch?

Maintenance access hatches, also referred to as inspection hatches or installation hatches, are used to properly cover installations such as fuses or cable lines. They are mounted by making cuts in a solid or drywall wall or ceiling and allow for easy maintenance and inspection tasks.

What Different Types of Maintenance Access Hatches Are There?

There is a distinction between maintenance access hatches with drywall inserts and classic steel maintenance access hatches. Hatches with drywall inserts are designed for drywall panels with a thickness of 12 mm.

The steel maintenance access hatches are used to cover smaller installation systems and are installed into the drywall panel.

What Material is a Maintenance Access Hatch Made of?

We offer two different models in our range. One model consists of white painted steel, which is particularly suitable for smaller meters. The other model features a 12mm thick drywall insert and has an aluminum frame.

What Sizes Are Maintenance Access Hatches Available In?

Since most installations have varying sizes, our shop offers maintenance access hatches in different sizes. The right one for you depends on the individual application. A hatch measuring 20x20cm is ideal for accessing small meters. A hatch of 60x60cm can also effectively cover larger technical connections.

What Defines a High-Quality Maintenance Access Hatch?

A high-quality maintenance access hatch features a so-called ""Push to Open"" lock. This makes it easier to open the hatch and also enhances safety.

Additionally, models with drywall inserts come with a safety cord, which is especially helpful when installing the hatch on ceilings. The safety cord prevents the drywall insert from falling when the hatch is opened, thereby reducing the risk of injury.

How Do You Install a Maintenance Access Hatch?

Both models in our shop can be mounted on either the ceiling or the wall. The model with the pre-installed drywall panel, which is specifically designed for drywall construction, is inserted and screwed into the designated spot on the ceiling or wall, just like a drywall panel.

Alternatively, the maintenance hatch can be attached using CW profiles.

For installing the white steel maintenance hatch, a hole must be cut into the drywall panel. Then, the hatch is hung, the frame of the maintenance hatch is inserted into the hole, and it is screwed into the installed drywall profiles using quick-mount screws.

How Are Maintenance Access Hatches Used During Chimney Cleaning?

Maintenance access hatches are typically used during chimney cleaning. They are particularly useful for removing soot, which can be the cause of chimney fires. It is recommended to install the cleaning opening at the lower part of the chimney, specifically below the stove connection.
