What is a chimney cover?
A chimney cover serves many purposes. While some use it as an aesthetic enhancement, it primarily functions as protection against heavy rain or snowfall.
Additionally, the cover is particularly useful in mitigating downdrafts that can negatively affect the draft behavior within the chimney, impacting the combustion process and the exhaust of gases. It also provides protection against birds, which often nest in chimneys.
What material is Zambelli's chimney cover made of?
Zambelli's chimney cover is made of high-quality stainless steel with a material thickness of 0.8 mm. Pre-drilled holes in the hood make installation with the supplied mounting material very easy.
What material should a chimney cover be made of?
Specific regulations must be followed regarding the material used for a chimney cover. The material must be fireproof and heat-resistant, complying with the fire code of the federal state and applicable DIN standards.
Chimney covers made of wood or plastic are unsuitable and cannot be used. Covers made of stainless steel or copper, however, are excellent for chimney protection, as they are not only fireproof but also highly durable, UV-resistant, and weatherproof.
Who installs a chimney cover?
For safety reasons, a chimney cover should always be installed by a professional. A chimney sweep or roofer, who is familiar with the requirements for a chimney cover, is well-suited for the task. The cost of professional installation ranges between €50 and €100.
Can rainwater enter through the chimney?
Without proper protection, rainwater or snow can enter the chimney. A chimney cover is an excellent solution to prevent this. However, if water does enter, it is important to distinguish between large and small amounts.
Small amounts of water may form as condensation due to combustion gases. Excessive condensation is often a sign of a poorly dimensioned system.
