What are Roof Shingles?

Roof shingles are a cost-effective option commonly used for roofing garden houses, carports, birdhouses, and sauna barrels.

What material are roof shingles made of?

Our bitumen shingles consist of a carrier layer made of fiberglass, which is impregnated on both sides with bitumen and has a top layer of colored mineral granules. The shingles have a material thickness of 2.8mm, ensuring a long product lifespan.

What characterizes a high-quality roof shingle?

High-quality roof shingles are flexible and pliable, allowing for easy installation on the roof. Additionally, bitumen shingles should have high UV and weather resistance. In our shop, you’ll find shingles that are weatherproof, guaranteeing excellent protection against sun, rain, and wind.

Are bitumen shingles waterproof?

Yes, our bitumen shingles are waterproof. The coloring with mineral granules on the top side prevents water ingress from rain or snow.

What types of roof shingles are available?

There are three main shapes: rectangular roof shingles, beaver tail shingles, and hexagonal-shaped shingles. The choice of shape depends on the application area.

For steep roofs, round shingles that resemble beaver tail tiles are suitable. If you want to roof your garden house, rectangular shingles are more economical as they require less material compared to beaver tail shingles.

How are roof shingles installed?

For proper installation, it is recommended to first lay the appropriate roof sheets on the roof. Then, the bitumen shingles can be laid in rows, starting at the roof edge and moving up to the ridge.

For increased stability, bitumen shingles can also be secured with roofing nails, which are also available in our range. These are driven in perpendicular to the roof surface to ensure the shingles adhere firmly to the roof. Tacking the shingles is generally not recommended.

How long do bitumen roof shingles last?

When installed correctly, roof shingles have a minimum lifespan of up to 25 years. This can be extended with regular roof maintenance.
