What do storm clips do and what are they used for?
Storm clips are used to securely fix roof tiles, roofing sheets and roof stones to the roof structure. They help prevent, for example, roof tiles coming loose and falling off in extreme weather conditions such as strong gusts.
Storm clips are particularly commonly used with roof tiles on pitched roofs. They protect the roof covering from damage and help ensure the tiles remain secure even in severe storms and gale-force winds.
What different versions of storm clips are available?
Storm clips are available in different designs to suit the type of roof tile. These include beaver-tail tile clips, hollow tile clips, side interlock clips and multi-block clips. In our shop you will find, among other things, side interlock clips as well as U-type storm clips for concrete roof tiles.
How are the clips fixed?
The storm clips are installed directly onto the roof battens. Depending on the clip type and the roof construction, the storm clips are either nailed in together with the substrate or hooked onto the roof structure.
What material are storm clips made from?
The clips in our shop are made from steel and therefore offer high UV and weather resistance.
Are storm clips mandatory?
Storm clips are classed as fixing clips and have been mandatory since 2011 for new builds and for roofs being re-covered. They provide improved protection against wind uplift and are particularly important on roofs with roof stones and roof tiles.
What types of storm clips are there?
In our shop you will find three different types of storm clips. J-type storm clips (side interlock clips) are used to secure cut roof tiles, for example at the verge or on support battens. U-type fixing clips can be used, for example, to secure concrete roof tiles. Universal storm clips are suitable for a wide range of roof tiles.
