What is a chimney connection tape?
A chimney connection tape ensures optimal roof sealing, reliably protecting the inside of your roof from dirt, moisture and other external influences. The chimney connection tape can be used both as a wall connection (a wall adjoining the roof) and for eaves-side, ridge-side and side chimney connections.
This means the chimney connection tape has two key areas of application: sealing between building components and connecting to upstands, for example the chimney. It reliably bonds wall and roof surfaces and, when installed correctly, ensures a well-sealed roof or a well-sealed façade.
Overall, the versatile chimney sealing tape is suitable for installation on chimneys, dormers and areas around roof windows. Suitable for most roof types, including concrete and clay tiles, it can also be combined with metal and aluminium sheets.
What material is chimney sealing tape made of?
Made from aluminium, chimney sealing tape offers high UV and weather resistance. Aluminium as a high-quality material also ensures a long service life, so you don’t have to replace it every year. Even so, it’s recommended to check the chimney connection regularly and inspect the sealing tape for damage or signs of wear to make sure the chimney connection remains watertight. Last but not least, manufacturing from aluminium results in a water-repellent surface on the chimney connection tape.
Another advantage of chimney connection tape is that it can be shaped easily and adapted to any structure. This allows for effortless, flexible work. The pre-applied butyl adhesive provides strong bonding, ensuring a secure hold once you press the chimney connection tape down firmly. Thanks to its three-dimensional surface structure, you can even use it in hard-to-reach areas.
What makes a high-quality chimney sealing tape?
Because the connection tape must guarantee a seamless transition from the roof covering to the wall façade, high stretchability is essential. Despite its flexibility, a good chimney connection tape is also highly robust and dimensionally stable to withstand external influences such as wind, UV radiation and rain.
In addition, moisture and dirt must be prevented from penetrating into the interior. This is reliably achieved by the strong adhesive power of butyl, ensuring your roof is fully sealed wherever you apply the tape.
How is chimney connection tape installed?
Installing chimney connection tape is easy because the tape is self-adhesive and you don’t need anything else besides sturdy scissors. Please note that application should only take place at temperatures between 15–35°C. Before fixing the chimney sealing tape, remove dust, dirt and other debris from the surface between wall and roof and then wipe it down with a damp cloth.
Once the surface is completely dry, you can roughly cut the chimney connection tape to size and peel off the release liner on the adhesive side. Either wrap it around the chimney or press it firmly onto the relevant areas for an eaves-side, side or ridge-side roof connection.
Make sure you always press the chimney connection tape down firmly so that uneven areas are sealed reliably, and work step by step. Overlapping installation is also recommended if you add a new strip of tape, as this helps prevent weak points.
